History of Physicist's Day
The Day of the Physicist is celebrated on June 13 in honor of the birth of doctor and professor Bernardo Lombardo ; better known as the Father of Physics in Panama . The celebration has been established since 2004. Lombardo was born on June 13, 1917 in the city of Chitré.
Bernardo Lombardo was the first Panamanian to obtain a physics degree in our country. He was dean of the Faculty of Sciences and twice rector of the University of Panama. As if that weren't enough, he is a pioneer in nuclear, medical, computer and physics physics in Panama.
In addition to that, he was one of the managers for the creation of the Central American Institute for Education Supervision and Administration, he founded the Data Processing Center of the Institute for Nuclear Studies at the School of Physics, where the first computer in Central America was installed.
For these, and other merits relevant to the development of physics and the country, the Panamanian Assembly of Physics approved the creation of the Physics Day on March 27 in 2004, as well as its designation as Father of Physics and the creation of the Medal to Merit Bernardo Lombardo.
